About the role
Solanta is a family owned and operated company based in Brooklyn. Our in house team designs, engineers, permits and installs residential and commercial solar, battery storage, roofing and electrical work across the NYC metro area: the five boroughs, the Hudson Valley, Long Island and New Jersey.
The Foreman / Crew Lead leads an installation crew on customer sites and is responsible for the work being done safely, correctly and on schedule.
You will work with the rest of our in house team, from the office to the crew on site.
What you'll do
- Lead a crew on residential and commercial job sites across the NYC metro area.
- Assign tasks and keep each job on schedule.
- Install and connect solar panels, racking, batteries and related equipment according to the plans and applicable code.
- Check the crew's work for quality and safety before you leave the site.
- Keep the site safe, tidy and secure, and make sure everyone on the crew follows the safety rules.
- Talk with customers about the day's work and pass their questions to the right person in the office when you cannot answer them.
- Coordinate with the office on schedules, materials and inspections.
- Train and support less experienced technicians on your crew.
- Tell the office about problems, delays and changes as soon as they come up.
What we're looking for
- Experience leading or helping to lead a field crew in solar, roofing, electrical or construction. Minimum experience: 2+ years of solar installation, troubleshooting, service or electrical work.
- Comfortable reading plans and working to building and electrical code.
- Able to work in challenging environments (hot sun, cold, wind, tight spaces) and at heights on roofs.
- Able to perform the physical tasks of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Essential physical requirements: standing for long stretches, working at heights on rooftops, and climbing ladders and stairs, while lifting and carrying equipment and materials.
- Able to give clear instructions to a crew and to explain the day's work to customers.
- Follows the safety rules on every site and arrives ready at the scheduled start time.
- Required safety training: OSHA 30 and NYC 10 hour Site Safety Training (SST).
- Driver's license required: yes.
- Work schedule and hours: 40 to 60 hours a week, Monday through Friday, Saturdays optional.
