Even tall buildings can install solar
Manhattan has fewer single family homes than the other boroughs, but tall buildings and large apartment buildings can still install solar. Because roof space is tight, we build custom arrays rather than fitting a standard layout.
Sharing solar across tenants and meters
In a multifamily building we can divide a solar system so it feeds multiple electrical meters. In an apartment building with many units, we can install a master solar meter that feeds all of the tenants from the one installation. If you rent, talk to your landlord or building board about whether solar makes sense for the building.
Condo and co-op boards
New York City has a property tax abatement for solar on qualifying properties, and it is open to the owners of eligible buildings, including condo boards of managers and co-op boards of directors. Eligibility, the amount and how to claim it are set by the NYC Department of Finance and the Department of Buildings, so read their guidance and check with your own advisers.
