About the role

Solanta is a family owned and operated company based in Brooklyn. Our in house team designs, engineers, permits and installs residential and commercial solar, battery storage, roofing and electrical work across the NYC metro area: the five boroughs, the Hudson Valley, Long Island and New Jersey.

A junior field technician is part of an installation crew and helps with solar, battery storage, roofing and electrical work on customer sites across the NYC metro area.

You work as part of the crew and take direction from your crew lead.

Training provided to new technicians: on the job training across a 90 day probation period, so we can see your intent and how you learn.

What you'll do

• Help install solar panels, racking and batteries as directed by your crew lead and the senior technicians.
• Carry, set up and put away tools, equipment and materials.
• Assist with the roofing and electrical tasks of a solar or battery installation, as directed.
• Follow the safety rules on every site and keep the work area clean and in order.
• Ask questions when you are not sure, and follow instructions carefully.
• Be polite with customers, and pass their questions to your crew lead.

What we're looking for

• A recent graduate (within the last 6 months) of a training program focused on solar, electrical, HVAC, waterproofing or other applicable general construction technology.
• Interested in the trade and able to take direction from your crew lead and the senior technicians.
• Able to work in challenging environments (hot sun, cold, wind, tight spaces) and at heights on roofs.
• Able to perform the physical tasks of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Essential physical requirements: standing for long stretches, working at heights on rooftops, and climbing ladders and stairs, while lifting and carrying equipment and materials.
• Shows up on time and works well as part of a crew.
• Required safety training: OSHA 30 and NYC 10 hour Site Safety Training (SST).
• Driver's license required: yes.
• Work schedule and hours: 40 to 60 hours a week, Monday through Friday, Saturdays optional.
