Sr Field Technician

About the role

Solanta is a family owned and operated company based in Brooklyn. Our in house team designs, engineers, permits and installs residential and commercial solar, battery storage, roofing and electrical work across the NYC metro area: the five boroughs, the Hudson Valley, Long Island and New Jersey.

A senior field technician does hands-on installation and service work on customer sites across the NYC metro area.

Depending on the job, the work covers solar, battery storage, roofing and electrical tasks.

What you'll do

• Install solar panels, racking and batteries according to the plans and applicable code.
• Do the roofing and electrical parts of a solar or battery installation that fall within your licenses and training, depending on the job.
• Find and fix problems on existing solar systems, including systems another company installed.
• Help guide Jr Field Technicians on the crew.
• Follow the safety rules on every site and keep tools, materials and the work area in order.
• Be polite and clear with customers, and pass their questions to your crew lead or the office when you cannot answer them.
• Report your progress and any problems to your crew lead or the office.

What we're looking for

• Hands-on experience installing or servicing solar, electrical or roofing systems. Minimum experience: 1+ year of solar installation, troubleshooting, service or electrical work.
• Able to work from plans and follow building and electrical code.
• Able to work in challenging environments (hot sun, cold, wind, tight spaces) and at heights on roofs.
• Able to perform the physical tasks of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Essential physical requirements: standing for long stretches, working at heights on rooftops, and climbing ladders and stairs, while lifting and carrying equipment and materials.
• Works safely, on your own and as part of a crew.
• Required safety training: OSHA 30 and NYC 10 hour Site Safety Training (SST).
• Driver's license required: yes.
• Work schedule and hours: 40 to 60 hours a week, Monday through Friday, Saturdays optional.
